Body Contouring Using Red Laser Light
Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) has Proven to Work On Difficult Weight Loss Areas and for Body Contouring
What is LLLT?
LLLT is an FDA approved therapy specifically designed to combat excessive abdominal, thigh and buttocks fat that is difficult to get rid of with diet and exercise alone. It is a painless, incisionless, non-contact procedure that does not involve surgery.
Studies have proven it reduces an average of 3.64" off of 4 measured areas after completion of a prescribed program (The 4 areas of measurements are the waist, hips, and both thighs.) This means you can lose about 0.75" of uniform size across the entire treated area. It is clinically proven to be effective and it is FDA approved for safety and efficacy.
How LLLT Works to Reduce Fat Cell Size
LLLT involves the application of a 635 nm low intensity laser to a targeted area of the body for 20 mins. During this time, the laser causes temporary openings in the fat cells directly under the skin which causes the fat content to seep out into the intra-cellular space. The creation of these temporary openings will remain open for 48-72 hours. In this time, the lymphatic system picks up this fat debris and transports it to lymph nodes where it is broken down by cells called macrophages. The broken down fat and lymph debris is then eliminated via the circulatory system without raising serum levels of triglycerides.
How is LLLT Treatment Done
The treatment program takes on average 6-9 sessions. It allows patients to continue daily activities without interruption or downtime.
Initially, you will consult with the doctor to determine if you are a candidate for the laser treatment. If you are a candidate, the course of treatment to be undertaken and number of sessions will be determined.
Measurements and photos will be taken to objectively assess your progress. Photos are taken neck down to assure patient anonymity and confidentiality. We will ask you to wear your tightest pair of jeans to the first session!
You will be asked to lie on a comfortable treatment table with protective eyewear where the laser beams will be positioned over the target site and activated for 20 mins. You will then be asked to turn over and the laser will provide treatment for another 20 minutes. Without any discomfort, the laser beams will sweep over the target areas emulsifying the fat cells beneath the skin.
Following a treatment session, we will have you stand on a vibratory platform for 10 minutes in order to facilitate the release of lymph debris from the fat cells.
During the program, patients will be asked to:
Walk 30 minutes a day to get the circulatory system going
Do 5 minutes of light massaging in the area to get the lymphatic system going as well
Drink 8 glasses of water a day and avoid alcohol and caffeine to help discard the fat.
Is it Safe?
The laser is FDA approved for safety and since it is a Low Level Laser, no heat is generated (i.e. zero risk of burn). There is no increase in triglycerides or cholesterol in the blood stream so there is no adverse consequences for patients on medications that are designed to lower these levels.
The Low Level Light Laser is a a Type II laser and does require supervision by a licensed physician.
The LLLT opens fat cells without effecting the rest of the tissue which means it impacts only fat and not muscle.
Fat Areas Targeted
The laser system can be used on the lower abdomen, upper thighs and buttocks.
When will I see results?
The lasers create temporary pores in the fat cells immediately. Shortly thereafter, the lymphatic circulation then eliminates the debris released. Many patients, thus, may begin to see results right after the first treatment. Patients will continue to see results over the duration of the treatment period and for the week following the last treatment. Thus, we do a final assessment approximately a week following the last laser treatment.
During treatments, you should be able to feel those tight jeans you brought into the first session start to fit comfortably.
Will it last?
The fat debris emulsified from the body is eliminated naturally and permanently. The duration of the effects of this elimination and the subsequent body contouring results will depend on a patient's ability to maintain a healthy diet and exercise program to keep the fat from re-accumulating.
Who is a Candidate
Any person interested in improving their body.
Contraindications as suggested by the FDA and used as a standard for all laser-based technologies include:women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, people with pacemakers, people undergoing treatment for cancer, people taking anticoagulants, people with active infection or compromised immune systems (HIV/AIDS) and people taking Accutane or any other photo-sensitizing drugs.
People who have had abdominoplasties, liposuction and women who have had cesarean sections would need to be examined by the doctor to determine if the LLLT laser is appropriate for them as scar tissue at the treatment site may hinder fat mobilization.
The laser can safely and effectively be used to treat patients using self-tanners or have tattoos in the treatment area.
Important Facts to Note
Science and research strongly supports that this technology works. However the patient must note that it is solely a cosmetic treatment and is not intended to be a weight loss solution. It removes about 1 inch of fat across your mid section and you will need to follow important instructions to achieve this. It should be considered as an adjunct to a formal weight loss solution.
The 48-72 hour window is crucial in achieving success and the doctor will inform you on what you have to do during this time and after to achieve maximum results. This fat can be reabsorbed so it is important to follow a few simple steps to make sure the body flushes out most of the work that the laser has done.
